A NEW art gallery which has just opened in Kendal is inviting members of the public along to hear about a campaign it is supporting next year.

On Monday December 30 from 1pm-4 pm, The Josefina Gallery at Waterside, is hosting A Walk To The World Cup event.

It will give people a chance to meet Windermere man David Bewick - one of the three champions embarking on the mammoth trek next year.

Mr Bewick will walk 1966 kilometres (1221 miles) from Argentina via Uruguay to Brazil to raise money for a water project in a remote town that has had no rain for four years.

Hostess Santa Tattersall, is chairperson of the Josefina de Vasconcellos Arts and Care Trust.

It has opened the new gallery dedicated to the life and work of the Brazilian sculptress who lived for a time in Little Langdale and Ambleside.

Santa said: "You can have some of my punch and nibbles and discover why on earth anyone would walk 1966km from Argentina, through Uruguay to Brazil."
