ELEVEN people are out of work after the closure of a Sedbergh factory.

Dental equipment maker Premier Cabinets has closed after more than 100 years in the town.

“We closed our facility in Sedbergh following a period of consultation with our team,” said managing director, Simon Gambold.

“Our type and style of cabinetry was no longer in demand.”

Premier Cabinets is owned by American-based company Henry Schein, which has headquarters in New York and employs around 16,000 people globally.

Dental cabinets have been made at Kings Yard, Sedbergh, since 1910.

But a spokesman said the Sedbergh outfit was ‘one small part of the Henry Schein umbrella’.

“It’s something they’ve been reviewing for a while,” he added.

Now bosses say staff have been offered ‘outplacement support’ with an external provider.

They have also contacted other businesses in the area to let them know of the availability of staff.
