THE man who died after being pulled from a raging River Rothay at Ambleside on Monday has been named as Simon Martindale from Hest Bank near Carnforth.
Cumbria Police say the 48 year old and his dog were seen in the river at around 2.25pm.
A force spokeswoman said: “Unfortunately, Mr Martindale was swept away by the fast moving water. His body was found at 3.30pm following a multi-agency search. The dog managed to get out of the water.
“Officers are supporting his family at this very difficult time following this tragic accident.”
The spokeswoman added: “Police are urging people to stay away from the water’s edge and not to enter the local rivers or lakes as the water is fast moving and can be very dangerous.”
