THE man arrested after a four-hour standoff with police has received a caution.

Police responded to a call at around 8pm last night (Saturday) of a man 'demonstrating abnormal behaviour' inside a property on Castle Street, Kendal.

The man, who is believed to suffer from mental health issues, locked himself in his home and was in possession of a knife, said police.

After four-hours of police negotiation, the 55-year-old was safely detained and arrested for possession of an offensive weapon. He was given a police caution and will require further assessment.

Fire and ambulance crews were also on standby at the scene.

No one else was involved in the incident and no injuries were sustained, said police.

Roads surrounding Castle Street were shut by the emergency services and were reopened at around midnight.
