Creaky hips and squeaky knees? Hospital food and all you need to know about cancer.... UHMBT lines up seminars

A SERIES of seminars for members of the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust takes place next week.

The sessions feature senior managers and clinicians and all start at 6pm and are free to members of the Trust.

They all take place at hospital sites run by the trust such as Westmorland General Hospital (WGH), Furness General Hospital (FGH) and the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI).

The first takes place on Tuesday January 21 and is an interactive session and will explore medical records in the 21st century.

The interactive session will be run by Steve Fairclough, head of health informatics and will explore the trust’s new electronic patient record system, Lorenzo. It takes place at FGH.

Other seminars taking place are as follows: Creaky hips and squeaky knees - Mr Matthew Freudmann, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon. This takes place on January 28 at WGH and on January 30 at FGH.

There will be a seminar on Cancer: myths and reality by Pauline Robinson, lead cancer nurse It features all you need to know about cancer, including some tips on how your risks can reduce. This takes place on February 11 at RLI, Feb 25 at WGH and March 13 at FGH.

There will be a seminar about hospital food by Barry Rigg, head of patient environment on March 26 at RLI and 2 April at FGH. The trust says this session will include hearing about its experience working with BBC TV chef, James Martin, and the Place standards (Patient Led Assessment Care Environment) which it completes every year.

Also on those dates, March 26 at RLI and 2 April at FGH, Barry Rigg, local community engagement manager will look at the role and value of volunteers in Health and Social Care. There will also be information available about becoming a volunteer yourself.

John Cowdall, chair of the Trust, said: “We want these seminars to focus on subjects that matter to our members and if anyone has any suggestions on any topics which might be of interest to you in future, please contact us.”
