PLANS to overhaul the Ferry Nab area of Windermere have been revised by South Lakeland District Council.

Proposals for new facilities on the lake shore, previously mooted as one plan, have now been split into two separate projects which the council is hoping to put before the Lake District National Park Authority.

“These will be important proposals to encourage more people, both local and visitors, to take part in boating, biking, and other healthy activities,” said Giles Archibald, portfolio holder for town centres and small businesses.

“We are working closely with all our partners to ensure that we can provide something the whole community will be proud of.”

The first phase of the development will look at the jetties, with better access for short-term public use as well as an increased number of long-term berths for private let.

The jetties now proposed are shorter than those in the council’s original plans.

The second phase will consider new and improved onshore facilities which will benefit visitors and residents.

A council spokesman added: “The aim remains that the new development will be sustainable and will bring significant environmental benefits, encouraging eople to leave their vehicles behind so they can take part in active and healthy pursuits, like exploring the lake and its surrounding area on foot, by bike, or by public transport.”
