A FORMER South Lakeland school house has been converted into a ‘luxury’ bunkhouse which can sleep up to 20 guests. Lumley Fee, which is next to Helsington Church, near Brigsteer, commands stunning views over the Lyth Valley.

It was officially opened by Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron.

The old school house dates back to medieval times, with Lumley Fee being one of the old Kendal baronies.

It has been converted into accommodation by Individual Inns, which runs pubs in Cumbria, Lancashire and Yorkshire, and is devoted to revitalising country inns.

It already owns the Masons Arms, at Strawberry Bank and the recently refurbished and re-opened Wheatsheaf Inn at Brigsteer.

A minibus service will link the bunkhouse to the two pubs.

Mason’s Arms general manager Di Taylor, who has led the bunkhouse project, said: “We are going for the Glamping (glamour camping) market. Once people know it is there, we are confident it will go really well.”
