MORE than 600 concerned parents, residents and staff at Castle Park School in Kendal signed a petition pledging their support for the installation of traffic lights on nearby Sedbergh Road.
Pupils Connor Davis and Darcey Looker handed over the petition, signed by 670 people, to Cumbria County Councillor Geoff Cook, chairman of South Lakes Local Committee.
Headteacher Helen Richardson said: “We already have a crossing outside the school but we need those traffic lights at Sedbergh Road. Cars come down the hill too fast, they do not stop, they do not see children crossing until it’s too late. And the road is getting busier and busier.”
Connor and Darcey appealed to councillors at the meeting to ‘help us have a safe journey to school’.
The petition will be handed to the Highways Committee for discussion at its next meeting.
