NEW homes built specifically for people living and working in the Lake District National Park are ready to go on show.
Affordable housing provider Home Group has built 14 new rental homes on land at Newby Bridge – at the southern end of Windermere – which will only be available for people who live or work in the area.
Home Group will hold an open day this afternoon (Thursday) when people will be able to view the homes for the first time and learn more about whether they may be eligible to apply.
Sharon Hodgson, Home Group project manager, said: “As an affordable housing provider we’re committed to providing homes for local people so we were more than happy to accept the local occupancy clause when it was proposed at the planning stage.
“It’s vitality important that we build homes which cater for all sections of society. Without affordable housing there’s a danger that living in some of our rural villages will only be an option for the financially better off.”
The £1.7m develop-ment has seen two and three bedroom homes built close to the River Leven as it runs from England’s largest lake.
The open day will take place 1pm and 5pm at Mill Farm, Newby Bridge.
