POLICE are appealing for information after a man was seriously assaulted in Morecambe at the weekend.

Police said that around 4.30pm on Sunday, the 27-year-old victim was walking home from a relative's house when a group of young teenagers began shouting insults at him.

They said the victim responded verbally at which point the group ran and cycled off.

One of the group then went into a nearby house and is alleged to have come out with a chair which he then hit the victim with several times causing the chair to break, said police.

The 27-year-old man was treated in hospital for cuts and bruises.

DC Stephen Craig said: “This is a very nasty assault and it is important that we are very keen to trace all of those involved – if anyone saw what happened or has any other information that they think could assist then I would urge them to contact us on 101.”

No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court.

Two boys aged 16 and 13 from Morecambe and two boys aged 14 and 15 from Lancaster have been arrested in connection with the incident and have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Police believe there are at least two other people involved that they are looking to trace.
