EDEN Housing Association’s cold night out has raised £1000.

John Clasper, Managing Director at Eden Housing Association, was just one of 170 people to take part in The Big Sleep in aid of the Winter Warmth Fund.

He has collected more than £1000 for the elderly suffering fuel poverty by participating in the mass sleep out challenge, with more pledges still to come.

Mr Clasper said: “I guess spending one night in the cold is nothing compared to the 300 elderly people in Cumbria who die because of the effects of cold weather each winter.

Brave participants camped out on Saturday February 15 as part of Cumbria Community Foundation’s Big Sleep to raise funds for the Winter Warmth Fund.

The night under the stars took place in a field by the Low Wood Hotel, Ambleside in near freezing conditions.

But, thankfully the rain from the previous two weeks held off and there were only light showers during the night.

The charity campers watched an outdoor movie before settling down for the night, and they had hot drinks with an early breakfast before setting off home.

“My thanks go to those who have sponsored me for this great cause,” Mr Clasper added.

The final figure has not yet been collated but already over £74,000 has been raised for the foundation.
