DRIVERS using a B road over the M6 in Cumbria are being advised it will be totally closed for four nights this week.

The Highways Agency is repairing the bridge over the motorway which carries the B5288 Newton Road over the M6 just north of junction 40 at Penrith and near Gillwilly Industrial Estate.

The work will start tonight (March 10) and will be completed on Friday (March 14).

Highways Agency project sponsor Mark Mosley said: "This is routine maintenance to ensure that both motorway users and users of the B5288 over the motorway can continue to enjoy safe and reliable journeys.

"While motorway drivers will not be affected by the work anyone needing to cross the motorway overnight via the B5288 should leave extra time to use the diversion."

The motorway will not be affected by any of the work but repairs to the bridge and resurfacing will mean closing the bridge to both westbound and eastbound traffic using the B5288 between 8pm and 6am.

A clearly signed diversion route will be in place with and alternative route across the motorway using the A66 through junction 40.
