A MAJOR operation was launched to rescue a fell walker from Great Langdale.
It took 8.5 hours and 23 team members to rescue the man on Climber’s Traverse, Bowfell, who injured his arm at 12.45pm yesterday (April 13).
Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team said his injury proved difficult to stabilise on the terrain, but with a ‘substantial amount’ of pain relief they managed to lower him to below the cloud base.
From there the casualty was flown to safety by the RAF Boulmer helicopter.
Members from Kendal Mountain rescue team, RAF Leeming Mountain Rescue Team were also on hand to assist the rescue.
