South Lakes set to star in new Chris Addison sitcom due on air on April 24
THE first episode of a new Sky sitcom set and partly filmed in Kendal is due to air on April 24.
‘Trying Again’ stars comedian Chris Addison (‘The Thick of It’, ‘Mock the Week’) and Jo Joyner (‘Eastenders’) as a couple trying to mend their relationship after Joyner’s affair with her boss – a doctor played by Charles Edwards (‘Holy Flying Circus’, ‘Downton Abbey’).
Among South Lakeland locals hoping to catch a glimpse of their town when the series airs will be Edward and Heather Coupland, whose Staveley guest house was used as the home of Charles Edwards’ character.
During filming in October, Ravenbank Bed and Breakfast was transformed into a TV set, with cast and crew filming from 9am to 10pm for one day.
“They were looking for a traditional stone-built Lakeland house and Ravenbank is 160 years old so we were approached by the location manager at the end of last summer,” said Heather.
“They took one day to set up, one day to film and then one day to restore the house perfectly – the crew were so efficient. It was a long day but a really interesting one – we were able to put on headsets and watch what was going on when they were filming in the sitting room.
“I think our bit is a scene after Charles Edwards’ mother has died and Jo Joyner goes round to comfort him.
“The cast members were all really lovely and they even invited us to have lunch with them on the day.”
The series will be shown in eight parts, and will come almost immediately after the BBC’s three-part adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s novel Jamaica Inn, which was partly filmed in Kirkby Lonsdale.
It is set to be shown in three parts from Easter Monday, April 21.
