VISITORS heading to the Lake District for Easter look set to enjoy fine sunny weather, say forecasters.

After a week of warm weather, sunshine is expected on Good Friday and Saturday, according to the latest look-ahead.

Temperatures are expected to reach around 12c to 15c with warm and prolonged spells of sunshine and visibility said to be 'good to very good'.

Easter Sunday is expected to slightly cloudier but still dry with sunny spells.

Wind speeds are due to be low on Friday and Saturday at around 3mph and 8mph - making lower-level fell walking pleasant; although picking up to 14mph on Sunday.

On Friday, the freezing levels on the fells will be above 1000m (300ft) - dropping to 800m overnight, and on Saturday it is expected to turn cloudier on higher ground later on.

Monday's forecast is not yet available.

Tourism bosses are hopeful of a fine weekend as it signals the official start of the season.

Last year's dry summer saw one of the best tourist seasons in recent years.
