THE ONLY way is up at Kendal’s Lakeland Climbing Centre after the opening of a new attraction.

Kendal CrazyClimb had barely opened its doors when it was announced the centre was to receive funding from Sport England’s Sportivate initiative.

This means it now has new facilities designed for both children and adults, as well as being able to offer half price climbing courses to anyone aged between 11 and 24.

The £150,000 investment in the CrazyClimb area created several new climbing challenges as well as four new jobs.

Managing director Kate Phillips said: “This will provide a great new adventure experience for both locals and visitors and should appeal to children and adults alike.

“We are very proud of the ongoing developments here at one of the largest and best climbing facilities in the country.”

Sport England’s investment comes after Seb Coe’s promise during the Olympics to ‘inspire young people to choose sport’ and gives young people the chance to attend a half-price six-week course that will enable them to become qualified independent climbers.

Sessions for children aged 11-15 begin on May 22 and sessions for those aged 16 to 24 begin on May 20. Both cost £30.
