Thousands follow the police on Twitter
CUMBRIA Constabulary is followed on Twitter by more than 20,000 people.
It began using the social media site in 2009 to update people with news, appeals and general information.
Its account proved to be so popular that extra Twitter accounts were established for local policing teams and specialist units.
Now more than 30,000 people follow 13 accounts across the county, while the force’s Facebook page is followed by more than 15,000 people.
