AN EDEN guesthouse which was devastated by floods in 2005 and 2009 has been shortlisted in the AA’s Friendliest Bed and Breakfast Awards 2014.

The River Garth Guest House on the banks of the River Eamont had to be completely refurbished to the first floor after both floods.

Owner Irene Nixon said: “The opportunity to welcome people into my home and provide them with a high quality service has helped me overcome the trauma of the floods in 2005 and 2009.

“It is wonderful to have received so many thank you cards and positive reviews over the years that I already feel like a winner.”

Irene is among just 25 finalists shortlisted from over 2,500 B&Bs inspected by the AA.

The winner will be announced during an awards ceremony at St Ermin’s Hotel, London, on May 13.
