A GROUP of 34 visitors from Kendal’s twin town of Rinteln and its surrounding area will be staying in the town over the next month.

The visitors are part of a German organisation called Landfrauen which is similar to the English Women’s Institute.

The group has a special interest in people who live and work in rural areas and are visiting the Kendal area between Friday and Monday to find out more about local farming and rural communities.

During their stay the visitors will meet up with Ruth Rigg, Chairman of the Cumbria and Westmorland Federation of Women’s Institutes, for an exchange of ideas over coffee.

Philip Ball, chairman of the Kendal-Rinteln Twinning Association, who will also be at the meeting, said: “It’s a great pleasure to welcome a new twinning group to our area with interests in local agriculture and I hope that the contacts made during this visit will continue to grow in the future.”

Other events lined up for the group include a coach trip to the Lake District National Park , visiting a working farm at Low Sizergh, near Kendal, and a visit to Holker Hall with a special interest in their gardens. The visitors will also do a guided walk around Kendal led by local resident Richard Pealing, a member of the twinning association.

On their way back to Germany the group will visit the Wensleydale Creamery in Hawes.
