THE next stage of resurfacing works on the A591 (Kendal bypass) are set to begin on Tuesday.

Phase two of works to the southbound carriageway have been completed to schedule and the contraflow on the northbound carriageway removed.

The A591 is now open to traffic with two lanes in each direction, although for safety reasons the 30mph speed limit remains in place .

The junction at Shenstone is fully open for access to and exit from the A591.

Phase three of works to the northbound carriageway between Whetsone Lane and Shenstone will start on Tuesday.

The contraflow on the southbound carriageway will be put out by workmen on Monday night/Tuesday morning.

During this phase, the northbound exit sliproad from the bypass onto the A6 will be closed, with traffic being diverted to Plumgarths Roundabout then returning on the southbound lane of the contraflow back to the Shenstone exit.

To minimise potential delays to traffic from the M6 and A65, signs will be erected at junction 36 (Farleton) of the motorway to advise road users heading for south Kendal to use the A65 via Endmoor.

The Highways Agency has agreed to display this advisory route message on the M6 matrix signs.

Entry from the A6 to the southbound bypass at Shenstone will not be affected, although traffic from the A6 wanting to go north towards Windermere will be diverted onto the southbound contraflow to Brettagh Holt roundabout then back onto the northbound.
