THE Kendal Mountain Festival is expanding out from its established November dates for the first time by adding a summer event this July.

Kendal Mountain Festival – On The Edge takes place on July 26-27 in Langdale, in the heart of the Lake District.

In partnership with The National Trust and based at the Sticklebarn venue, it will present a programme of films and guest speakers plus live music and food.

A central theme will explore technology in the wilderness and how there is no need to ‘ditch your device’.

There will also be guided walks and outdoor activities with National Trust rangers.

With plenty of camping and accommodation close by, the festival promises to be popular, although with limited space at the venue the organisers are advising people to book early.

“Outside of our annual film tour, this is the first time we’ve organised a fringe event – hence On the Edge”, says KMF director Clive Allen.

“We want it to reflect everything that people associate with Kendal Mountain Festival – the great social atmosphere, brilliant films, and inspirational speakers - but we’re intending to keep it fairly compact.”

One of the major attractions will be the choice of films being screened.

“Each November we show the best films from the year, but at an event like this we can delve into our back catalogue and screen our all-time favourites plus we’ll add a few new surprises in there too!” said Mr Allen.

“It’s going to be great – the best of the best in a truly iconic Lake District setting!”
