A CLIMBER has suffered fatal head injuries after falling from a central Lake District fell.

The man, who has not been identified by mountain rescuers, fell from the first pitch of Raven Crag on Glaramara and was pronounced dead upon arrival at hospital.

A spokesman for Keswick Mountain Rescue Team revealed members were called out at around 11.50am on Saturday.

“As the Team was in base for an open day, the first vehicle was able to leave for the scene within two minutes, swiftly followed by a second,” he explained.

“Also, fortunately, an RAF Sea King was in the area, and was able to assist with the rescue.”

However, the spokesman added: “Despite the strenuous efforts of other climbers at the scene, and the Sea King paramedic, the climber was pronounced dead by the receiving hospital.”

It took 22 team members almost four hours to complete the operation.
