A MAN has been killed after being hit by a train on the West Coast Mainline in north Lancashire.

British Transport Police have confirmed a 23-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, between Yealand and Burton, after being struck at around 10.30pm last night.

A spokesman for the organisation said the incident was being treated as 'non-suspicious'.

“BTP officers were called to the line between Yealand and Burton close to Cinderbarrow Lane," he said.

"Officers from BTP and Lancashire Constabulary attended the incident, which was reported to BTP at 10.29pm and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

“Medics from the North West Ambulance Service also attended but a 23-year-old man from the local area was pronounced dead at the scene."

He said the man's family has been informed and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

He said he did not know the man's identity, but it would be released once an inquest had been opened and adjourned.
