A GRANGE nursing home is celebrating its 100th anniversary next month with a day of retro fun.
Cartmel Grange was originally set up to provide care for soldiers of WWI who were affiliated members of the Working Men’s Club and Institute Union.
It then became known as the ‘miners home’ where injured members of the clubs could recuperate for two ‘bob’ a week.
Since being bought by Brancaster Care Ltd nine years ago it has undergone a transformation to restore many of the home’s original features.
The home will mark its centenary on June 28 when Queen’s Guide to the Sands Cedric Robinson MBE will open a day of commemorations and unveil a plaque to mark the event.
The day will involve staff dressing in WWI outfits, clog dancing, music by local brass band The Old Contemptibles and local trade stands.
All funds raised on the day will go to Bay Search and Rescue.
