ENGINEERING students have been helping to map the future of South Lakeland.

By taking a closer look at the potential development of key sites in Kendal and Ulverston, then making their own suggestions, the Kendal College students gained a real-life insight into the planning process.

The Level 3 Engineering Diploma students worked closely with planning officers from South Lakeland District Council as they considered the future of sites including Kendal Parks, Scroggs Wood and Stainbank Green in Kendal, and Croftlands in Ulverston.

“The students came up with some excellent suggestions that will now be taken into account along with consultation responses received from the wider public,” said Lorayne Woodend, development strategy delivery officer at SLDC.

“We are always keen to engage younger people in the consultation process; after all, the land allocations are a key part of delivering affordable housing and sustainable employment for the future, and these are important considerations for young people.’’
