TOP officers from Craven District Council and the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority are training to try out the 73-mile section of the Grand Depart Tour de France route, which goes through Craven and Wensleydale, before the event proper on July 5.

It is a massive occasion for the region and David Butterworth, the Chief Executive Officer at the YDNPA, said: “It started off as something of a joke. Then, because of the competitive nature of my fellow CEOs, it became a bit more serious.”
