A CARDBOARD boat race event on Windermere has raised nearly £4000 for charity.

A total of £3845 was handed over to the Lake District Calvert Trust on the shores of Lake Windermere.

The trust is a charity which provides holidays for disabled people, their families and friends.

Race sponsors Progression Solicitors of Windermere and event organisers Low Wood Bay Hotel handed over the sum.

Now in its second year and featuring 20 teams, competitors take to England's longest lake in boats made of cardboard.

The event is called the Low Wood No Wood Cardboard Boat Race.
