AN 83-YEAR-OLD Ulverston man with a mistrust of banks has had his life savings stolen from his home.

Police are investigating the theft of £45,000 in cash from a place in the pensioner’s home that he believed to be safe.

Also taken was an amount of gold sovereigns and gold Krugerrand coins, which originate from South Africa.

An amount of jewellery was missing, including a Rolex watch, bracelets, chains and earrings.

Detective Constable Ross Woods, said: “The victim has been left devastated by this theft. The money was his life savings and he is of a generation who have a mistrust of banks and therefore kept the money at home.

“We are appealing for anyone with any information to come forward. If you have been offered the items for sale or know of someone who as suddenly got a large sum of money, please let us know.”
