FIREFIGHTERS including a team from Ulverston attended a fire which saw several properties evacuated.

At 5.18am this morning crews from Ulverston and Barrow were mobilised after reports wheelie bins were alight in front of a property on Gleaston Avenue in Barrow.

A spokesman for the force said the wheelie bins were well alight and the property was full of smoke.

It also posed a danger to a nearby gas supply so police evacuated propeties and set up a cordon.

United Utilities also attended the incident to monitor gas levels.

Fire crews used two hose reel jets to tackle the fire.

Two firefighters wore breathing apparatus.

A large fan was used to clear the smoke.
