AN ACTION group fighting to buy Blencathra will submit their offer this week.
Friends of Blencathra, a group of more than 6,500 people, are expected to offer close to the £1.75million asking price set by cash-strapped Lord Lonsdale.
The group is planning on celebrating the submission of their bid by walking from Keswick to Threlkeld, on Wednesday, July 2, setting off from Moot Hall at 11am.
Richard Jennings, walk organiser, said: "I've had confirmation that a leading figure from the world of mountaineering will be joining us on the walk.
"Walkers, climbers, fell runners, mountain bikers, farmers, education and outdoor centre users, paragliders - any user or admirer of the mountain is encouraged to take part."
Debbie Cosgrove, Chair of Friends of Blencathra, said: "The walk is timed to coincide with the bid deadline, and it will be a joyful confirmation of the immense amount of public support and goodwill for the campaign to bring Blencathra into public ownership.
"Literally thousands of people are supporting us, and we hope that many will be able to join us."
The walkers will be wearing bright colours and ribbons to symbolise those who cannot attend.
