A FOOTBALL fanatic from Windermere has smashed a fundraising target following a 2,000km trek across South America for the Brazilian World Cup.

Windermere’s David Bewick reached his fundraising target with two pals after travelling 1,966km for the start of the tournament in Brazil.

After the World Cup ended with a German victory on Sunday, the group announced they had smashed their £20,000 goal.

The cash will go to charity Josefina de Vasconcellos Care Trust to build a well in Bahia, Brazil, which is suffering the worst drought in more than 50 years.

The group said on Facebook on Sunday night: “We did it! Yesterday we smashed our £20,000 target and we couldn't be prouder.

“Thank you to everyone who has followed, donated, shared and just generally been amazing!

“We could not have done it without you.”
