LANGDALE will mark Lights Out – One Million Candles to Remember beginning at next Sunday’s service at Holy Trinity Church at 10.30am when the British Legion will lay a poppy posy on the altar.

After the service, Langdale Valley Association will host a lunch at Chapel Stile Village Hall from noon to 2pm. On Monday, Langdale will join millions the world over in observing the Lights Out from 10pm to 11pm at the war memorial.

Ambleside will also observe the Lights Out from 10pm-11pm at the war memorial next to Ambleside Parish Church. People can take their own candle in a container or buy a Centenary Candle from Marks and Spencer to raise monty for serving members of the armed forces, and veterans of all ages.

Lights Out is an invitation to everyone in the UK to take part in a national moment of reflection in memory of the service men and women who died in World War One.
