AROUND 600 people attended the Luing Cattle Society open day at High House Farm, Winster, on Friday - the first to be held outside Scotland.
Although primarily an event to encourage new breeders of Luing cattle and a networking event for existing breeders, the open day was also an opportunity for members of the general public to experience a working Luing farm.
HIgh House Farm manager Alec Smith conducted a stock tour, explaining the benefits of the island breed, while Natural England project officer Teresa Morris explained the benefits of the breed to the Lake District landscape.
Visitors were also given an opportunity to tour the pheasant and partridge shooting estate associated with High House Farm.
More than £2,500 was raised for The Christie Charity, the Cumbria Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs and Winster Village Hall.
