DAVID Morris’s north Lancashire seat could be at risk if the Government expands health privatisation, a poll suggests.

According to a survey by the polling company Survation, the majority of voters in Mr Morris’s constituency would be opposed to the NHS being included in a controversial trade deal.

Mr Morris’s Morecambe and Lunesdale seat, which he won with a majority of just 866 in 2010, is one of 13 ‘battleground’ constituencies surveyed in the poll.

Of those questioned in the constituency, 74.7 per cent said they opposed including the NHS in any privatisation arrangements.

Survation chief executive Damian Lyons Lowe said: “When the potential implications of this trade deal are put to voters, they are clear that protecting the NHS is of paramount importance, notwithstanding the benefits of a trading partnership.

“As this poll shows, healthcare is an issue that cuts across political divides and so may prove critical to MPs in marginal constituencies like Morecambe and Lunesdale, sitting on very small majorities.”
