A CELEBRITY chef’s website has given the thumbs up to an award-winning Lake District inn.

The Wild Boar Inn Grill & Smokehouse in Windermere was given rave reviews for its food and accommodation on household name Jamie Oliver's website.

“We get lots of return guests and people who comment on what we think is a genuinely excellent venue but it is still fantastic to receive rave reviews and celebrity endorsements,” said Andy Lemm, general manager of The Wild Boar.

The website, which has 6.4 million unique visitors a month, is edited by Jim Tanfield, who stayed at The Wild Boar after driving to the Lake District from Essex. He described his room as 'gorgeous' and the Inn, which has its own smokehouse and micro-brewery, as 'a real foodie retreat'.

Mr Tanfield was said to be impressed by the large copper bath in his room, which he said was so big that it could have been a cauldron for a cow.

His meal at the restaurant consisted of a platter including pork crackling sticks and giant olives, which he called 'beautifully simple and generously furnished’.

This was followed by wild boar, which Mr Tanfield described as 'beautifully cooked, handsomely presented and very satisfying indeed’.

Mr Tanfield finished his meal with The Wild Boar's signature dessert, smoked cinnamon ice cream with bacon, which he called 'delicious’ and ‘bonkers but brilliant'.

The Wild Boar, was also recently praised by the actor John Hannah, known for his roles as DI John Rebus, and in Four Weddings and a Funeral, who tweeted: "Thanks Adam. Fantastic nite at The Wild Boar inn. Gr8 food friendly people real comfy beds. Hmmm. #englishlakes.” This also comes shortly after The Wild Boar won Cumbria Tourisms’ Pub of the Year award.
