A SPECIAL service is to be held at St John’s Parish Church, Cowgill, on Sunday, September 21 to commemorate a group of navvies who lost their lives helping construct the Settle to Carlisle Line.

They are buried in unmarked graves in the churchyard. A plaque made by local stonemason Pip Hall will be unveiled in their honour An address will be given by Friends of the Settle Carlisle LIne member and volunteer Canon John Bearpark.
