A TOP rail boss is to visit the Lake District on Wednesday to experience first hand the wide range of travel options for national park visitors.
Clare Moriarty, director general of the Department for Transport’s Rail Executive, will travel on the Lakes Line from Oxenholme to Windermere and then undertake the official opening of the new bus shelter, funded through the GoLakes Travel Programme and used by passengers transferring from trains to Lakes bus services.
Ms Moriarty will then use a Bike Bus to travel to Brockhole, the Lake District visitor centre, where she will see the start of the Sky Ride Local - a free guided bike ride using cycle routes, jetties and the Bike Boat service – all supported by the GoLakes progamme.
Finally, she will return to Windermere railway station in one of the new Electric Twizy cars, to catch the train on her way back to London.
