A PROJECT to develop a Cumbria-wide CCTV scheme is progressing well, according to Cumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner.
Richard Rhodes said negotiations for the procurement of a supplier to install the £2.5 million scheme are continuing. It is anticipated that a contract will be awarded during October 2014, which will operate for a seven year period.

The project is being led by the Commissioner, in conjunction with the Constabulary and the six district councils. It will see 53 cameras installed across Kendal, Barrow, Carlisle, Workington, Whitehaven and Penrith.
Chief Constable Jerry Graham said: “I am pleased that the CCTV project is progressing. I look forward to the new system becoming operational in the near future, as it will provide consistent and improved CCTV coverage across Cumbria. CCTV is an important tool to help solve crime and keep our local communities safe.”
