A DAD-of-two will raise money for a children’s charity this weekend.

Leon Lachmann, 39, of Kendal, is cycling 17 miles to Bolton-le-Sands, and then walking and running 34 miles to the Derian House Children’s Hospice on Saturday (September 20).

Mr Lachmann works at Beetham paper mill, Billerudkorsnas, and will be joined on part of the event by fellow colleague Robert Dickinson, from Storth, in a support vehicle, and Kendal’s Adrian Ainsworth, who works for South Lakeland District Council.

Mr Lachmann chose the children’s hospice after attending the Christmas Trees event at Kendal Parish Church last December with his family where the charity had leaflets on display about their work.

He said: “I did the Keswick-to-Barrow walk in 2013 with Kendal Search and Rescue Team and I enjoyed doing the walk so much that I wanted to do something else for charity.

"My concerns really are the weather and getting lost in Preston because I don’t want to do any more miles than I have too!”

His wife Sarah and two children Molly, 13, and Bethan, nine, will be walking the last few miles with him to Derian House.

Mr Lachmann linked up with an Endmoor-based local support group which helps the charity with fundraising.

It says that Derian House cares for life-threatened children and young people across the North West in both Lancashire and Cumbria, as well as providing respite and care for family members.

The Hospice is currently supporting more than 300 families who have a child with a terminal or life-threatening illness and a further 200 are receiving bereavement support.
