THE 'Color Run' phenomenon has taken all the big cities by storm, with runners raising cash while being pelted with powdered paint.

Now it looks as though South Lakeland could be set for a slice of the action, with a 'Colour Dash' to be held in Kendal next April.

"I think something like that would be great in Kendal because it's not just another run - it's truly something different," said Kendal resident, Lynsey Goodyear, who is head of PE at Settlebeck School in Sedbergh.

"This kind of race is quite famous so I think will be really well-attended."

The 'Color Run' has been held in hundreds of cities around the world.

Now St John's Hospice, based in Lancaster, plans to hold its own five kilometre version in Kendal, following a successful event in Morecambe in which 550 people took part.

Ms Goodyear was one of those who took part, with her six-year-old son Corey, after the Hospice at Home team helped Lyndsey’s mum in her final weeks.

“The nurses at the hospice were so kind. They came and helped my mum in her own home, which meant a lot to us all," said Lynsey.

"Since she passed away I have done my bit for charity to try and support wonderful local causes such as St. John’s.”

In recent years Lynsey, head of PE at Settlebeck School in Sedbergh, has raised more than £5,000 for charity.

“I do a lot of running but this event was great because Corey could join me.

"He was very excited to run with his mum.

"The atmosphere was fantastic and Corey had a great time. We can’t wait to do it again next year!”

Corey, who goes to Heron Hill Primary School, raised £250 in sponsorship from family and friends.

Now he and his friends are demanding their own event closer to home.

Catherine Butterworth, head of fundraising at St John’s, said: “We are absolutely delighted that 550 people took part. We actually had to turn down over 100 people as the event was a sell-out.

"We have had great feedback from everyone so there will definitely be a Colour Dash next September and we will also be bringing the Colour Dash to Kendal next April.

"So watch this space for details!”
