KENDAL Leisure Centre unveiled a new fitness suite and changing rooms this week as part of a programme of improvements to the site.

The new look facilities mark the first phase of an investment programme by the council’s new leisure provider North Country Leisure (NCL).

The refurbishments to the swimming pool changing rooms were completed last week and included an additional group changing facility.

This will mean more group swimming sessions can take place at the same time as public swimming, allowing an additional six hours of public swimming a week during busy periods.

The squash courts and studio were converted into a large gym and cycle studio and a new class programme, including new sessions, will start at the end of October for the indoor cycling studio.

The centre will also be redecorated and a multipurpose studio is due to open on October 27.

South Lakeland District Council’s portfolio holder for Health and Wellbeing, Councillor Graham Vincent welcomed the new facilities, saying, “The work completed is the first stage in providing up to date facilities for everyone.

“The changing rooms are more secure and pleasant to use and having separate changing rooms for schools to use will improve everyone’s experience.”
