CLASSIC winter ballet production, the Nutcracker, will be coming to Lancaster next week.

To celebrate its 34th anniversary, the Vienna Festival Ballet will appear at the city's Grand Theatre as part of a UK tour, performing Tchaikovsky's famous work about Clara and her nutcracker doll, which transforms into a princely soldier.

The story sees Clara and her toy combat a 'mouse king', before joining the sugar plum fairy on a journey through a shimmering wintry scene, to a kingdom made entirely of sweets.

Returning by popular demand, following several successful performances, including Sleeping Beauty earlier this year, the production promises to be a treat.

The Vienna Festival Ballet cast includes graduates from the Royal Ballet School, British, Australian and Italian soloists, and guest stars from Vienna and South Africa.

The performances also offer an ideal opportunity to introduce children to the art and skills of ballet.

It will be performed on October 29 at the Lancaster Grand Theatre, beginning at 7pm.
