CHILDREN at schools in South Lakeland and Eden donned brightly coloured clothes for their journey to school to highlight the importance of always being easily seen.
Nationally, 32 children died and 1,608 were seriously injured while walking or cycling in Britain in 2013. Almost one-fifth of all pedestrians and cyclists killed or seriously injured were children.
To mark National Road Safety Week primary pupils dressed up in eye-catching clothing for their walk, cycling or scooting journeys to school as part of a ‘Bright and Bling Day’ last Wednesday (Nov 19).
The event was organised by Cumbria County Council’s Active Travel team as part of its ‘Be Safe and Be Seen’ campaign.
Schools in South Lakeland and Eden taking part were: Castle Park Primary, Kendal; Coniston CE Primary; Ghyllside Primary, Kendal; Heron Hill Primary, Kendal; St Mary's Catholic Primary, Ulverston; Dalton St Mary’s Primary ; Appleby Primary.
