STAFF at a private wealth office in Kirkby Lonsdale have raised more than £1,400 for an Ambleside charity.

Brathay Trust is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year and challenged local businesses to turn £70 into as much money as they could.

Sanlam staff held three separate events to raise money for the charity.

Firstly, they had a 'beard-off' competition, in which male members of the office grew beards for a month to see who could grow the best facial decoration.

Secondly, each member of the seven strong team covered 10km in different challenges, including dog walking, scooting and an obstacle course.

Most well-supported was the Sanlam cake sale on Kirkby Lonsdale market. All members of staff produced home baked goods for the stand and by 1pm every piece of cake had sold out.

All the money raised has gone towards The Brathay Trust's. The charity works with young people and their families to help them re-engage with society after time in care or in the criminal justice system.
