CUMBRIAN cubs have been celebrating the movement's centenary with birthday parties and trips away.

More than 100 Cub Scouts and around 40 leaders from Ulverston, Dalton, Askam, Barrow, Broughton and Walney took part in a weekend of activities, challenges and adventure as part of the celebration.

The groups met at the Scouts district campsite at Urswick and enjoyed a weekend of hiking, rock climbing, mine exploring, abseiling and more.

Cub Oliver Watson of 2nd Ulverston Cub Pack said: "Bush craft was brilliant, but fencing was epic!"

The Cubs also took part in a special '100 task challenge', demonstrating as many of their Scouting skills as they could in as short a time as possible.

After the camp, South West Lakes district commissioner Eddie Richards said “It’s great that 2016 is Cubs100, the centenary of the Cub Scout movement, and I'm lucky and proud to be ambassador for their monumental birthday party."
