Persistent and sometimes heavy rain is expected across parts of Cumbria from Friday evening through to Saturday evening.

Total rainfall on upland catchments could widely reach 50 to more locally 80mm whilst on low ground towards the coast falls are likely to be 10 to perhaps 15mm. The rain could potentially lead to minor surface water or river flooding of low lying land and roads.

There is still a degree of uncertainty in the forecast both with regard to the track of the system and where the heaviest rainfall will be focussed, but the Environment Agency and Met Office forecasters continue to monitor this closely and are prepared to respond and to issue Flood Alerts where necessary.

The Environment Agency have had staff out on the ground checking assets, removing any blockages from watercourses and clearing debris screens prior to the rainfall. This work will continue over the coming days.
