A 'TUNELESS' choir has launched in Milnthorpe for those who want to sing without the pressure of hitting the right notes.

The choir is the idea of husband and wife team of the conductor Ian Allan and soprano Tracie Penwarden.

Together they meet hundreds of people who would like to sing in a choir but do not consider themselves good enough.

“There are many who have been told by friends and family and even music teachers that they can’t sing. Everybody with a voice can sing but they may not always hit the right note at the right time!” Ian said. “Singing is fun, but it doesn’t have to be perfect”.

Leading the choir is former army musician Ian, who until 2004 toured the world as a conductor and trombonist. He retired with the rank of Warrant Officer.

Tracie is one of the country’s leading sopranos and she now runs a successful teaching practice in Milnthorpe with more than 80 clients.

Between them they also conduct Arnside Choral Society, K Shoes Male Voice Choir, OttoVoce Ladies' Choir, and The Milli Youth Choir.

Ian, 53, and Tracie, 47, will open a second tuneless choir in Kendal on February 26 at 7.30pm, at Mintbridge, Kendal's new rugby ground.

The choir plans to meet weekly during school term time. After the launches, each session will cost £7 including refreshments, or £25 for a five week half-term.

Tickets for the launch will be £10 and can be purchased online at www.tunelesschoir.com/kendal. For more, contact kendal@tunelesschoir.com, southlakeland@tunelesschoir.com or 07799660145.
