THE people of Bentham are being encouraged to pick up their knitting needles to mark 100 years since World War One ended.
One of the volunteers from the Bloomin' Bentham group visited Bentham Town Council to encourage members to "get behind" the project to make knitted and crocheted poppies.
Councillors heard that bell ringers at St John the Baptist Church, Low Bentham are to join the nationwide 'Ringing Out for Peace' as a beacon is lit on November 11 this year.
A community lunch is also to be held on Armistice Day at Bentham Town Hall, the council's December meeting was told.
