A CUMBRIA renewable energy firm is creating new jobs across the UK to cope with increasing demand for its solar equipment and biomass boiler systems.

Solarlec says it is benefiting from the ‘flourishing’ nationwide interest in green energy products.

The company, which operates from Warwick Mill Business Park in Carlisle, reported a record period of business, with production more than doubling over the past four years.

Solarlec’s Cumbria office is linked to a network of other regional offices and installers throughout the UK.

Bosses say they were cheered to see figures released by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) reporting that a record 14.9 per cent of energy generated in the UK last year came from renewable sources– up 30 per cent compared to 2012 figures.

And the green boom is set to continue, with DECC figures for the first quarter of this year revealing an even larger renewables share of 19.4 per cent, equal to a 43 per cent rise on 2013 statistics.

Solar PV and solar heat contributed 3.3 per cent of the total renewable energy mix across all sectors, including heat and transport.

Solarlec, which operates throughout the UK installing more than 150 systems every month, says it is proud to be part of the blossoming renewables industry.
