A YOUNG student has enjoyed a whirlwind summer - rubbing shoulders all over the globe - with more to come.

Adam Boardman, 18, will spend a week in London from October 13 shadowing Alex Fleming, the managing director of recruitment agency Adecco, and its UK and Ireland chief executive, Peter Searle.

And in January, Adam, from Carnforth, is packing his bags for Venice to attend Adecco's global conference.

lIt has been an amazing year for the Kendal College student who is studying a level three BTEC in business studies and has his sights set on a career in marketing.

Adam's globe-trotting year started earlier this year in Kendal when staff from the town's Adecco's branch in Lowther Street visited the college to promote their 'Way To Work' partnerships.

It involved Adam applying to have a paid work placement during July with a local employer and Adecco covering the cost of his salary.

Adecco Kendal hooked him up with Oxley Developments for a month with Adam working with the marketing and HR teams.

e was then encouraged to take part in an Adecco global competition - with the top prize being spending a month with Adecco's global Chief Executive in Switzerland.

Adam made the final 100 and then the final 10 from around the world - being the UK's only representative - but narrowly missed out on the top spot.

However, he still spent four days in Switzerland with the final 10 and celebrated his 18th with his new friends who presented him with a Union Jack cake with his name on.

Adam said: "My experience was frightening, as I had never gone abroad without anyone I know before - let alone being the only candidate from the UK in the competition! But it was also exhilarating. The other candidates are now very close friends and we still keep in touch via Facebook. The whole one month challenge was really well organised and the whole event went so smoothly. Not to mention the cameras that were on us all the time made me feel like a celebrity! It's a memory that will stay with me forever. I could never have got this far if it wasn’t for Ramona Mulligan, the Kendal Adecco branch manager, who has stood by me ever since I first asked about the competition."

Mrs Mulligan, branch manager of Adecco in Lowther Street, said: "We are all very proud of Adam, and will continue to support his career aspirations, in addition to holding quarterly workshops with Kendal College as part of our corporate social responsibility work."
